Heinz Blaufelder
Since the beginning of time man has been burdened or blessed (depending on your philosophy) with an urge to express his
inherent creativeness. This urge, this essential motivation, has built magnificent palaces, it has developed the
engineering techniques of the space age and has produced a cultural revolution that finds expression in countless forms and
innumerable aesthetic theories, styles, methods, and trends, some of which will live forever because they represent a
basic truth.
The rest enjoy a brief heyday of universal acceptance and examination and are rejected. Some are developed and expanded.
These form the ever changing base of "modern art". Nothing is so fickle and inconsistant as the conception "modern".
The words realistic or abstract are no criteria for the quality of a work of art, neither is it decisive that the artist
tries to concieve the world in which he lives as an allegory or as true to nature.
It is only vital that he succeeds in seeing and creating anew through the medium of his art the world surrounding him and
within himself.
Some create in harmony with nature. Others wish to make the invisible obvious and spectacular. They desire to show the m
eaning behind the things as they appear to the eye. A score of famous names in this latter category will immediat ly l
eap to the mind including Henry Moore and Picasso.
Heinz Blaufelder has discovered the happy knack of combining the two extremes, the problem of "style" for its own sake
has never burdened his mind. What moves and agitates him above all is sheer creative unrest, the restlessness of the
wanderer between the concrete and the abstract worlds which are our life.
He is driven by curiosity and the zest for life of the intellectual adventurer. The intensity of his conciousness is reflected
in his graphics whether figurative or abstract. In them all there is something of the adventure of his youth spent in
the Hessischen woods which stood behind his parents house, the gigantic spruce-firs which offer a never ending challenge
to the young at heart.
Heinz Blaufelder has never denied nature and therein lies his strength. He paints what he sees and he paints his
interpretations.
Landscapes and portraits come equally fluently from his brush. His range of subjects extends from Folklore to metaphysical
abstractions. His canvas is as wide as the world we live in. His interests are as widespread and divergent as
humanity itself.
Blaufelder's art cannot be expressed in a formula. In every respect he remains true to himself. His artistic independence
is a form of personal research which by itself ensures that all his work has that indefinable aura which is the hallm
ark of quality. We are proud to present this selection of Heinz's work. We hope and believe you will appreciate his
magnificent use of color and line, the delicacy of his Jeddah street scenes and his amazing versatility.
